School Systems
The area is served by three school systems: The Bedford Central School District for residents of Bedford, Pound Ridge and Mount Kisco, and parts of North Castle; the Katonah-Lewisboro School District for residents of Katonah and Lewisboro and parts of Bedford; and the North Salem School District for residents of North Salem.

Private Schools
In addition to fine public schools, the area offers several prestigious private schools. There is Rippowam-Cisqua School, with a campus for grades K-4 on Route 172 in Mount Kisco and grades 5-9 on Route 22 in Bedford. The Harvey School, which is a day/boarding school founded in 1916, is located on Route 22 in Bedford.
St. Patrick's Elementary School on Route 172 in Bedford has facilities for grades K-8. In Pound Ridge there is a Montessori School on Highview Road. In addition, there is a wide variety of nursery schools. The area is also close to several other private schools located in lower Westchester County, Greenwich and New Canaan, CT and Putnam County.
Town Government
Most of the town governments are similar, run primarily by a full time supervisor and 4 town board members. In addition, the towns have administrative services, such as parks and recreation directors, highway supervisors and town clerks.
In Bedford, there is a 4-member Town Board plus a Supervisor. The elected officials are up for office every 4 years, and the Supervisor is elected for a 2-year term. The Bedford Town House is on Route 117 in Bedford Hills.

The Town of Lewisboro has a 4-member Town Board and a Supervisor. The Board holds 4-year terms while the Supervisor is elected every 2 years. The Town House is located on Main Street in South Salem and some of the town offices are located at Onatru Farm, 99 Elmwood Road, South Salem.
