In North Salem lie 3 hamlets - Salem Center, Croton Falls and Purdy's, - and throughout the town's 42-square mile area can be found wide spaces of undeveloped, beautiful countryside. North Salem's rural country lands are home to horse farms and hunt country. The town is the home of the Golden's Bridge Hounds, one of the oldest fox hunting clubs in the country.
North Salem is one of the last truly rural open areas within commuting distance to New York City. It is also one of the most picturesque, with winding dirt roads, old stone walls and spectacular views.
Throughout the town, there are multiple opportunities for walking, hiking and cross-country skiing on trails and land open to the public.
