Bedford Village (1 of  3 hamlets in the Town of Bedford) has historic roots, dating back to 1680, when 23 Connecticut settlers purchased the "Hopp Ground" located on the Village Green in Bedford.  In 1700, under an act by King William III, the town of Bedford became part of New York and Westchester County.  Prior to that, most of the houses in the village were burned by the British in 1776.

Today the hamlet is a collection of lovely houses and rolling, open land that gives it a rural, traditional New England town feeling.  Even with the proximity to New York, it remains horse country, and the Bedford Riding Lanes Association (BRLA) offers, for a small yearly membership fee, acess to over 200 miles of trails - for riding or walking - that crisscross through forests, streams and open fields.

The Village Green remains the center of the town and keeps a charming "town common" feeling with a collection of stores, churches, the post office and shops surrounding the Green itself.  Neighbors greet neighbors as they go about their errands in Bedford Village.
